Lethargic Excitement.

For today I thought I might complete my writing challenge day 5, but the energy just ain’t gonna get that done today. So instead I’ll just take a little from the challenge and talk about that instead.

I want to talk about excitement. What makes me want to get up in the morning, or the middle of the night, or any time of the day for that matter. I remember when I was much younger, and our family was getting ready to go on a camping trip, or a holiday. No matter what time of the night we had to get up to get ready for said trip, as soon as I woke up, I was exited. Excited about what the day ahead would hold, whether it be a long trip to the coast, or a cold trip to somewhere I’ve never seen before. That exciting feeling is how I want to live every day. Not only do I want this feeling for myself, I want my children and family and friends, to experience the same.

So while I do battle with cancer, I also will be figuring out little by little how to make this excitement a reality again. For me the starting point is investing in myself, reading, learning etc. Some things that excite me, helping people, teaching people, learning new stuff especially science stuff. Drop me a comment and let me know what excites you. I’m sure we all have something.

Stay true to yourself, and Awesome.

Excitedly, T Neil van Rooyen

  1. Hi Neil yes that holiday experiences where nice but to wait for you to get healthy and well i think is more exciting, then we must go on holiday with the little ones, that is something to look forward don’t you think. Love.

  2. You are right, we should all feel that excitement for the day ahead when we wake in the morning. In fact it should carry all through the day and be your last thought at night as you go to sleep. To achieve this a person needs to have goals and feel they have a purpose in life. if you feel you have purpose and passion about what you are doing, the excitement starts flowing naturally, and that excitement is contagious to everyone you come into contact with.
Thank you for being an inspiration to so many.

  3. I LOVE the heading of this post! I sympathize with the lethargy, although mine is nowhere near as bad as yours! I must admit I’m having a hard time trying to think what excites me! I do recall being really excited planning my trips to SA to visit family (2007) and for Audrey’s wedding (2012) and also being excited at returning back home to the family here and then within a couple of months attending Dirk’s wedding. This post has sure made me think about it and what I can do to make it a reality more often! It IS a feeling one should experience more often than once every few years!

  4. That’d be such an awesome way to start each day. Sometimes even something as simple as, “It’s the weekend” or a new video game patch has been released for my favourite game can stir excitement in me. To be honest, there’s even been an occasion or two when I’m excited to go to work. Usually that’s only when I have a fun project I’m working on though 😉 I’m keen to find out how we can feel like this more and more often! I like what you said about you getting excited from helping people too, that’s an awesome thing to get excited about 🙂
