Journey through life, or wander through the wilderness.

Have you ever wondered how you came to be where you are in life? Are you there on purpose, or did you some how just end up there? Do you like where you are, or do you find yourself wishing you were some where else? Perhaps you say things like: “I wish I could have a holiday at such and such a place.” So as I’m typing this I’m thinking, this topic might rub some people the wrong way, but bear with me. So back to the questions about where in life you are, you  could say things like: “I wish I had a nice car.” or “If only I had nice clothes to wear or a bigger house.” Now the things I have said so far I’m sure most people may have thought at some point. I’m reasonably sure about this as most people I know watch TV. Advertisements, movies and TV shows all suggest to the people watching that what they have is not good enough. But the whole TV thing is a post for another day. You could also be thinking that the person saying the above things is selfish. Maybe, maybe not.

What happens though when the questions change slightly. What if you are saying things like: “I wish I could pay for some more groceries for that family in need” or “If only I could donate some money to such and such charity.” How about: “I would like to help you have some place to stay, but I can’t afford it.” or “I would loan you my car, but I need it.” This person could be perceived  as not being selfish, in fact, this person seems to want to help others and make the world a better place.

How ever, it seems neither person is in a position to achieve what they want. Is this how we ought to live our lives? Some would say we should be content with what we have, but are we living to our full potential? Now the scary question. Do we realize what potential we have, or are we to busy being distracted by the every day non sense that we are so used to, and comfortable with.

Whether we realize it or not, we have a choice. We can wander through the wilderness and end up where ever life puts us. Or we can make a stand and say, I will build a road map and find my way to where I intend on being. Which for me is being in a position to be able to look after myself, my family, and who ever else I can reach. Now keep in mind, this is not all about money, this applies just as much to having friends or contacts, that can help achieve things or have know how. Money does how ever give you options.

So what are you going to do? Are you going to wander through the wilderness or are you going to journey through life? It starts with making a decision, and if you decide to make a stand, the second step is to turn off the TV. My decision has been made, it’s your turn now.

Remember to be Awesome

  1. Hi Neil how are you keeping today. I like your letter very good ideas, just one or two points. A person before marige must dream otherwise he’ll newer know what is life is. After marige it’s a different kettle off fish then you have responsibilitys, specifically when the kids come. That is the time when you make a decision or plan to something about your life think first How’s it going to effect them. Then if you decide to do what ever it is your planning do it right to the end. Remember your family always comes first. Some people don’t think so but that is my thoughts. ??

  2. Some really good points in there Neil. I guess I’m going to have to give it some thought and see which journey I’m going to be on! I do believe though, that whichever journey we are on, God is there with us. Its up to us to make good choices and take the consequences if we make choices that are not the best for us or our families. Every decision and choice we make, affects many people, not just ourselves. Hugs to you! xx
