[Blog challenge: Day 4] What’s one thing you are proud of?

20160327_172010[1]

So many, but I’ll choose a recent one.

What is it?

Maybe a little weird that I’m proud of my blog and talking about it on my blog, but hey. 🙂 That’s how it is. I started this blog for two reasons, some of you may know already if you have been following along. One is to share my story and journey through stage 2.5 Hodgkin Lymphoma and dealing with it using Chemotherapy. The other reason is to share my writing, get stuff out of my head and into the world, so that I can learn about myself and find direction, find my passion and turn that passion into an income stream.

Who were you with?

Eighteen or so months ago I came across a blog called Live Your Legend. There I found some amazing tools to change my life. Every thing I needed was right there, I made a start but soon enough I got back into old habits, and life continued as per usual. It seems if you don’t change nothing will change.

What were you doing?

Fast forward to three months ago. I’m working at a Grocery store, stacking shelves. Been there for about two years now. I’m renting my own place, got my own space, quite comfortable really. In fact too comfortable, I have been feeling the need to move my life along in some way, just had no idea which way to go, or how to go about it. Working full time takes most of your time, not that I mean to make excuses, but that’s where my mind was at. When I returned from work, all I wanted was to relax and forget about it all. Easy with many distractions like games, TV, etc.

Mean while in the side of my neck cancer is silently growing, I know there is a lump, but I ignore it. Things go away when you ignore them, right? I most definitely did not want to go the the doctor, cause I knew exactly what he was going to say: “Lets CUT IT OUT”. Um, no thank you. Funny thing, when I did go eventually, that was what the doctor wanted to do. I managed to circumnavigate that thankfully.

So as the cancer did it’s thing, I became less and less able to work and was taking a lot of sick days. It got to the point where I had to go to the doctor and he immediately told me to stop working while they diagnosed exactly what was wrong with me. I resign from the grocery store and go on the sickness benefit. While all this is going on, in the back of my head I’m going. How do I change my life to be where I want to be, and have the opportunities I want to have.

What actions caused you to experience the success you did?

Remember how I said work takes all your time, well now I had lots of free time. So my options are, sit at home, mope, feel like a victim of cancer or life, feel sorry for myself. I could add many more things here.

OR

I could use the time to better myself. What do I mean by that? Not physically obviously, the doctor told me to rest, and I had very little energy anyway. But I can read, books, internet, YouTube. I now have time to read books, that’s a bit of a challenge for me, but I’m getting there. YouTube is a great source of information, as is the internet obviously. So by watching YouTube, I don’t mean watching cats do funny tricks, or people doing some stupid fail video, there is a plethora of content out there that is useful. So I chose to indulge in videos that will positively help me. Following people that motivate me, people doing things that I would like to do one day, to motivate me. Also following successful people that teach you how to get from where you are to where they are. Believe it or not there are actually people that do that. 🙂 Here are my favorites:

Following advise from LiveYourLegend, I started a blog. I had no idea where it would go, how many people would look at it, if any other than my Mums and Dads. But start I did, and it has been viewed way more times than I ever would have imagined. I’m sure most people that have viewed are interested in following my journey to health, but I also noticed how by writing about my positive attitude many people were positively impacted and made comments about it. So I found out that I can put a smile on someones face, just by writing on my blog, I can help someone see life in a different light, just by sharing my story here. That makes me very exited, as I love to make someones day better, in any way I can.

How did it feel?

This all makes me feel really proud, that I managed to start a blog and write every day. But most of all, that I can touch peoples lives in a positive way. I’m only just one week in, I’m learning how all this works, and I’m loving every minute of it. Not just learning how to blog, but learning about myself and others at the same time. So watch out world, I got my eyes on you.

Stay positive and Awesome.

Proudly, T Neil van Rooyen.

  1. I can see what you think and see, your having an experience now and made you think which is very good but don’t look what other people do or say and think. You must do your own thing what you feel that you want to do and what you want to reach in life. There you must also take your kids in consideration you are setting an example to them. Remember you are showing them the path of life. What people on Internet say and do is not always right for everyone, your path have been laid out no matter what other people say or do that path you’ll walk. The grass on the other side always looks greener you know why. I hope that you will make the right decision. Love you.

  2. Stay positive keep writing down your thoughts I am enjoying reading about your journey so far thinking of you love you lots xx

  3. Some interesting thoughts and ideas in there Neil. I am proud of my children, all walking different walks in life to better themselves and to be happy. I don’t like to use the word proud for stuff I do myself, so I’ll just say I enjoy the satisfaction I get out of my crochet work, with which I sometimes bless others (or I think I do lol).
As usual, I look forward to your daily blog to see how your brain is working lol! Keep it up!

  4. I love your blog and how strong you are Neil. Please spend as much time as you can with your kids though rather than tv, games and internet. They need you and you need them a lot right now. Xxx
