A parked car, released.

One of the reasons I started writing this blog, was so that I could get some of the thoughts in my head out on paper, virtual paper, and into the world. From what I hear, this process should help me in several ways. It clears my head so there is some room to think and play with ideas. It also starts a process of figuring myself out and finding some direction. And maybe most importantly, it starts a process, emphases on STARTING, the exact process is not so important.

A wise man once told me: “You cannot steer a parked car.” I heard this a really long time ago, I knew exactly what he meant, but until I started experiencing what he meant, it didn’t really sink in. Until you START making headway you can’t change where you are going. You’ll just stay exactly where you are. So START moving, in any direction, and once you make a START you can steer yourself to where you want to be.

For me starting this blog was like releasing the parking brake on my vehicle. And amazingly even though it’s only been a really short time, I can already feel the ability to take control and change direction. As when driving a new car for the first time, it will take time to get used to how it behaves. So just like when learning for your learners car licence, I’ll stay in first and second gear, and do a few laps of the parking lot. And when the time is good and right, we’ll go on a journey. And I’ll take you all with me.

Drive safe and stay Awesome.

Slowly and steadily, T Neil van Rooyen

  1. This post brought a few smiles to my face! I still want to say something, but I have other things on my mind right now, so will comment later today or tonight.

  2. Making the start is a very good thing. Next comes the discipline to keep going. I read something interesting. Willpower is your best friend when things go well, but often the first friend to check out when you get weary. When you don’t want to do something, your carnal mind will give you plenty of reasons why you don’t have to. Your emotions will even join in and say, “I agree, because I don’t feel like doing it anyway.”
So for me, when willpower is not enough, I turn to God to release His power into my will and energize it to bring me across the finish line, or at the least, to get to my next goal.
Keep it up, you are doing great on this particular journey you are currently on! lovies

  3. Hi Neil, keeping well I hope. Like to drive the car in the foto but would not like to own it too expensive. If you get to the road that you feel is for you stick to it till the end. Just remember your road now is to get well, always in our minds, love you.
